The Change Password application lets you update your login password at any time. It gives you real-time feedback on password strength and automatically revokes your other active sessions as a security measure.
How to change your password
- Open Change Password from the sidebar.
- Type your new password in the New password field. The strength bar below updates as you type.
- Repeat it in Repeat the new password. The submit button activates only when both fields match and the strength requirement is satisfied.
- Click Set the new password.
Password strength
The strength bar evaluates four criteria. All four must be met when the Require strong password toggle is on (recommended):
| Criterion | What it checks |
|---|---|
| Length | At least 8 characters |
| Mixed case | Both uppercase and lowercase letters present |
| Number | At least one digit (0–9) |
| Special character | At least one symbol, e.g. ! # @ & |
You can turn the toggle off to set a simpler password, but this is not recommended. The strength rating (Weak / Moderate / Strong) is always shown regardless of the toggle state.
What happens to your other sessions?
The confirmation message tells you how many sessions were closed, for example: "Your password has been successfully updated. (2 other sessions revoked)". You can review and manage your sessions at any time in the Login Sessions app.
Microsoft account sync
If your account has some Microsoft services assigned by OpenStudio, and your profile is linked to a Microsoft identity, your Microsoft account password is updated simultaneously. If the sync fails, a warning is shown and the Microsoft link is temporarily suspended — contact your administrator in that case.
