OAuth provider errors
| Error message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| This account is already linked to another user. | The Google / LinkedIn / Microsoft account is connected to a different OpenStudio profile. | Sign in to the other OpenStudio account and unlink the provider from there first, then re-link it here. |
| Sign-in was cancelled. | You closed the provider's pop-up or clicked "Cancel" on the consent screen. | Click the provider button again and complete the authorization flow. |
| Personal Microsoft accounts are not accepted. | Your organization only allows work / school Microsoft accounts. | Use a work or school Microsoft account, or link a different provider (Google, LinkedIn). |
| Work/school Microsoft accounts are not accepted here. | The reverse restriction — only personal accounts are allowed. | Use your personal Outlook / Hotmail account instead. |
| Security check failed. Please try again. | The CSRF state token expired (session was idle too long during the OAuth redirect). | Return to Connected Accounts and start the link process again without switching tabs in between. |
Passkey errors
| Error message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Passkey registration was cancelled. | You dismissed the biometric prompt, or the browser lost the user-gesture context (e.g., you switched apps mid-flow on iPhone). | Tap Add this device again and complete Face ID / Touch ID without switching away from the browser. |
| This device already has a passkey for your account. | You tapped "Add this device" on a device that is already registered. | No action needed — you can already sign in from this device. If you want to re-register, remove the existing passkey first. |
| This device is already registered to a different account. | Another OpenStudio account has a passkey from this device. The system prevents two accounts sharing one device to avoid sign-in ambiguity. | Sign in to the other account and remove its passkey from the Connected Accounts page, then return here to register. |
| Passkey not recognised. | The passkey on your device no longer matches any record (e.g., it was deleted from Connected Accounts by you or an admin). | Sign in with your password or another linked provider, then re-add a passkey from Connected Accounts. |
