This guide covers the administration features available in the Internal Messaging (Chat) application. For a general user guide covering messaging, mentions, and reactions, refer to Chat Conversations — Messaging System.
Group Creator Privileges
The user who creates a group chat automatically becomes its Creator and gains access to administrative controls not available to regular members. These are accessible via the Settings icon in the chat header.
Managing Group Members
From the group settings modal:
- View the full list of current participants with their names and avatars.
- Remove a member by clicking the button next to their name. Removed members lose access to the group immediately and will no longer see new messages.
- Add new members using the search bar at the bottom of the member list. Type a name or username and select from the suggestions.
Renaming a Group
Click the pencil icon next to the group name in the chat header to rename it. The new name will be updated for all participants immediately.
Pinning Messages
Any group member can pin a message by hovering over it, opening the action menu, and selecting Pin Message. A banner will appear below the chat header showing the most recently pinned message. Click View All on the banner to see all pinned messages for the conversation.
Pinned messages are useful for keeping important information (such as a meeting agenda or decision summary) visible to all participants.
Locking a Conversation
The group creator can lock a conversation to prevent further messages from being sent. This is useful after a project concludes or when archiving a discussion.
- Open the top-right dropdown menu ().
- Select Close/Lock Group.
When locked, all participants will see a banner reading "This conversation is closed" and the message input box will be disabled. Only the creator can unlock the group by repeating the same steps.
Downloading Chat History
Creators (and members) can export the full transcript of a conversation as a plain text file. Go to the top-right dropdown and select Download Chat. The file will include the timestamp, sender username, and message text for every message in the conversation.
Clearing Your View
The Clear History option (available to all members) removes the conversation history from your view only. Other participants are not affected and will continue to see all messages. The conversation will reappear in your inbox if a new message is received.
