The Structured Users group (also identified by its system acronym STRUCTURED_USERS) is a special default group in the OpenStudio ecosystem. Membership in this group automatically unlocks a set of applications and features designed for staff members who are formally part of the organization.
What does being a Structured User unlock?
Members of this group automatically gain access to several applications without requiring individual permission grants:
- HR - Requests — to submit HR requests to the Staff Affairs Unit.
- Spaces and Resources Reservation — to book meeting rooms and resources.
- Digital Signing of Documents — to request a digital signature certificate.
- Visibility in the Organization directory and address book.
How to add a user to the Structured Users group
Being a default system group, the STRUCTURED_USERS group cannot have a Responsible group assigned or be deleted. However, you can still add explicit members or delegates.
The recommended way to manage structured staff membership is through the Manage Authorization Groups application or via the Staff Career Records sheet of the individual user.
Via Manage Authorization Groups
- Open Administration > Manage Authorization Groups.
- Find the group
STRUCTURED_USERSin the list (it will be marked with a Default badge). - Go to the Membership tab and click Add new membership.
- Search for the user and confirm. You can optionally set an expiration date for the membership.
Via Staff Career Records
- Open Manage Staff Records and Career Events.
- Search for and select the relevant user.
- In the Framework tab, look for the Structured Members section.
- Toggle the membership on. This action also creates a career event automatically.
