How to configure and use the Organization Chart

The Organization Chart in OpenStudio is a dynamic, automatically generated visualization of your organization's hierarchy based on the Areas, Departments, and user assignments configured in the Manage structures application.

How to access the Organization Chart

From the Dashboard Home (Profile Widget)

On your dashboard home page, the Organization Details section of your profile widget shows your place in the hierarchy. Click on your structure name to open a scoped view of the chart starting from your department upwards.

From Manage Areas (global view)

Users authorised to access Administration → Manage structures will find a collapsible Organization Chart (Global View) panel at the bottom of the main Areas list. This renders the entire organization from the top owner node downwards.

  • Each node shows the person's photo, name, personal ID, and role badge.
  • Nodes can be collapsed or expanded by clicking on them. On first load, Department-level nodes are collapsed by default to keep the chart readable.
  • The chart supports pan and zoom: drag anywhere to pan; use the +, , and Fit buttons in the top-right corner to zoom.

From Manage Areas (per-structure view)

When editing any Area or Department, a Hierarchy tab is available alongside the Edit tab. This renders a focused chart scoped to the selected structure, highlighting it with a blue border. It shows the full chain from the organisation owner down to the structure's members.

What the chart shows

  • Owner/Founder at the top.
  • Area Managers — one node per Area.
  • Heads of Unit — one node per Department, showing member count.
  • Members — individual users within each Department (in the full/per-structure view).
